Department of Philosophy
Founded in 1957, the former Department of Philosophy went into its academic activities under the former name of Philosophy and Educational Sciences. In the early years of its formation, the department principally and exclusively followed educational goals, that is, teacher training.
But now, the Department of Philosophy in B.A. courses, mainly deals with subjects on Metaphysics and Epistemology. Western and Islamic philosophy courses (covering a period beginning the Greek philosophy up to Contemporary philosophy), are included in undergraduate program. In addition, different courses such as psychology, sociology, logic, and philosophy of science are included in the Bachelor\'s degree syllabus.
In M.A. program, the postgraduate students investigate main philosophical schools and teachings. They study, for example, ideas of Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Hegel, contemporary philosophy and Islamic philosophy ( Mashsha , Ishraq and Hekmate-e Mutaaliye).
A chair of Ph.D. in philosophy is being finalized for the coming years.
Journal of Letters &Humanities
Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages has been publishing a seasonal research journal entitled ‘ Nashrieh-ye Daneshkadeh-ye Adabiyat va Ulumeh Ensani’ (Journal of Letters and Humanities) for sixty years which is the oldest journal in the country. Now, the journal is published in three different areas of Literature, Philosophy and Language. Up to now, 199 volumes have been published, and the volumes 200 to 202 are in press. The editorial board of the journal consists of twelve members who are the academic staffs of various universities of Iran.
