Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages formerly called Faculty of Letters and Humanities is one of the three oldest faculties of the University founded in 1946 with the main objective of developing teaching and research in the fields of language, literature, Philosophy, Education, history and culture. In 1989, the former Faculty of letters and Humanities divided into two separate Faculties; namely, the Faculty of Persian Literature & Foreign Languages and the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities.

Faculty of Persian Literature & Foreign Languages aims to provide students with courses and research abilities best suited to their interests and their future teaching and research careers. Now the Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages consist of 5 Departments. Almost 700 students are enrolled in Bachelor\'s degrees (Persian Language & Literature, English Language & Literature, French Language & Literature and Philosophy).

Postgraduate degrees are also offered in the following fields: (1) M.A. in Persian Language & Literature, English Language Teaching (ELT), French Language & Literature, Culture and Ancient Iranian Languages, and Philosophy. (2) Ph.D. in Persian Language and Literature, English Language Teaching (ELT), and French Literature. Presently, 130 students are studying in M.A. and Ph.D. programs.

There are also three Language Labs and one Library at this Faculty. Since its establishment, it has met high standards in research journal publication, holding national seminars, carrying out research in different international fields and specifically training students. A periodical Journal of Letters and Humanities is also published in Persian, English and French by this Faculty.
